Invest In Yourself Or No One Will
Happy Sunday to everyone. This week's “Tip For The Week” can be applied to just about anyone who does anything in life. If you want people to believe in you and what you're trying to do, you must first believe in yourself and what you know that you can do. Whether we realize it or not, life is one big interview. Everything that we do in life and to a large extent how far we get in life is contingent upon our ability to sell ourselves to others. Whether you're looking to get a job, establish a career, start a business, get accepted into college or even getting someone to notice you, it all starts with getting your name out and putting in the work in order to strengthen it because your name will only be as strong as the investment that you make in it.
When you go into a job interview, the person who is interviewing you typically begins the interview by asking you to tell them about yourself. In reality, they aren't necessarily interested in hearing your story, more so than they are interested in seeing how confident you are in yourself and what you believe you have the ability to do. They are looking to see if you are worth investing their time and/or money into, with the latter part of the interview and your resume pretty much serving the purpose of building, strengthening or solidifying their willingness to do so. If they decide to invest in you, your ability to continue to invest in yourself and what the job requires of you will determine if they feel that you were an investment worth making, and that will determine how much they are willing to continue to invest in you going forward whether it’s a promotion, a raise or job security.
Life and everything that we do in it is no different. Anything that you want to accomplish in life requires making an investment in yourself and your ability to reach that accomplishment, because in order to for that vision to become a reality, others must be willing to invest in you as well. Athletes don’t get drafted just because they want to play professionally and they definitely don’t make make 10’s of millions of dollars just because they made the team, they have to show the owner of that team that they are worth the investment through their athletic abilities. Business owners are not successful just because they have an idea for a business, they have to show the public that their business and what it provides is worth investing their money into. Students don’t get a grade of an “A” on their report card just because they want one, they have to show the teacher that their body of work is worth investing an “A” in.
Whatever it is that you want to accomplish in life………find the cure for the common cold, become the biggest media mogul in the world, get a promotion at your job, graduate with a 4.0, start a restaurant, whatever it may be, no matter how big or small, it can be accomplished but you must believe that it can be done or no one else will. People may see your potential or the potential of what it is that you want to accomplish, however if they feel that you haven’t made an investment into your vision and its potential, they will not do it either. No one can make your dreams bigger than what you see them to be, because NO ONE CAN B.U. But YOU!
