A Road Block Is Not A Stop Sign!

Good Evening and Happy Sunday to everyone. As I was headed to work Friday morning, I was listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show and during one of his segments, he was talking about some ventures that he was working on to add to his Brand. He stated that he went to pitch these ideas to some potential investors at which time they told him that the ventures didn't fit into the box of what he was currently doing and he should stick with what is working. Now as someone who has never been an advocate of anyone telling me what I can or can't do, this segment quickly caught my ear and in turn inspired this week's B.U. Tip For The Week: "A Road Block Is Not A Stop Sign"

Similar to the account that Steve Harvey gave, we are constantly faced with road blocks in life, and a lot of times these road blocks are really people who are standing in our way.......standing in the way of where we are trying to get to, and in turn we see two types of individuals........those who are going to find an alternate route in order to reach their destination............and those who will be prevented from reaching that destination because the road block said "STOP! You can't go that way", but they couldn't see beyond "STOP! You can't" In the case of the latter, it inevitably leads to a bunch of "what-if" scenarios of individuals who don't reach their potential because they decide to follow the status quo of what someone else tells them they are or are not capable of doing. These scenarios could be parents telling their children that they're not going to be successful in college so it's no point in wasting your time, or a boss telling an employee that they are not ready to take on the duties and responsibilities of a certain position or maybe the common scenario of prematurely putting all of your plans out into the universe and listening to the people who tell you that it can't be done. All of these scenarios happen because we let the opinions of others outweigh our own when it comes to our future, when it should be the other way around.

In the case of Steve Harvey, the investors told him that he should stick with what is working, but obviously that wasn't an answer that he was willing to accept because HE knew the potential that his ideas had to be successful and no one could tell him otherwise, therefore he proceeded to find another route in order to get his ideas out into the universe...........your situation is no different. No one should be able to tell you what you are capable of doing because no one truly knows your capabilities. In a lot of cases, people give opinions of others based on what they feel they would not be able to do themselves or the fear that someone will reach a plateau that they themselves cannot see. Parents may not have made it to college and "because that's my child, they won't either"..........It may have taken the boss 10 years to reach the position that you are seeking and "they're not going to make it there before I did!"...........You may tell your friends that you are going to make it to the NBA but "No one from this city has ever made it to the NBA! What makes you so special?"..........but because they are not you, their opinion of your capabilities should not outweigh yours.

As you go into a new week and another day into your future, know that whatever plans you have for your future, whatever goals you want to reach, wherever it is that you want to be in life at the end of your drive, you can get there as long as you know that you can and despite what anyone says to the contrary, you can be as successful as you want to be and no one can dictate that road but you because NO ONE CAN B.U. BUT YOU!

Have A Great Week!
